To keep the difficulty level of the race consistent across all runners you must run the entire course located at Blanchard State Forest as indicated on the course map. We will not accept results ran elsewhere.
You have the entire month of October to run the course as many times as you like.
The course is an open course and (for most of the course) is open to horseback riding and mountain biking. Please follow proper trail etiquette while running.
A Discover Pass is required to park at Blanchard State Forest.
Keep in mind CDC, Washington State, and Skagit County COVID-19 guidelines and regulations. At this time Skagit County is in phase 2.
2Timing & Results
—Once completed with your run you must log the result to our system regardless if it is on Strava or not.
—GPS data is required to qualify for time-based and attempt-based awards.
—The GPS track must go through the five waypoints shown on the course map.
—The results are calculated by a segment detection program. If you believe there is an issue with the time it gave you, please flag it. Note that if you use Strava the results may differ since Strava uses "moving time" unless the activity is marked as a "race".
—The uphill and downhill rankings will be based on the cumulative time of the two uphill/downhill segments shown on the course map. Note that there are some rolly hills in the segments so just because you are on a downhill section that doesn't mean there will be no climbs!
—The results are only as good as your GPS's accuracy so the reported times may differ some from your recorded time.
—It is recommended that you use the fastest interval your GPS can handle, ex. 1 second, to decrease the likelihood for error in your results.
—Time-Based awards specifics:
An award will be given to both the top male and female GPS based times for the overall course, uphill segments, and downhill segments.
The top overall runners will be excluded from receiving the top uphill and downhill awards.
The "Masochist Award" will be awarded to the runner who has ran the course the most times and submitted GPS data for each attempt. It can be won in combination with any of the other time-based awards. The tie breaker will be the lowest total cumulative time of all race attempts.
3Other Awards & Prizes
—Raffle prizes will be randomly selected from all participants (GPS and non-GPS).
—The on course "visual scavenger hunt" prize can be complete any time during October. The prize will be given to the participant with the most correct answers and a tie will be settled by flipping a coin.
—Prizes will be given out for the photo contest as decided by a panel of judges.
The photos must be taken on the race course and uploaded with your race result(s).
Awards will be given for the best overall, funniest, best slug, and maybe others!
—Since we love Halloween an award will be given out for the best costume ran in as decided by a panel of judges. A photo/selfie is required to be submitted with your race results.
Rules are subject to change. Since we are new at the virtual-race game we may need to adjust or clarify rules as the month goes by.
